2011 ORCA/City of Orange Summer Swim Lessons, Water Polo and Swim Teams

 

Through our partnership with the City of Orange, ORCA will once again be offering swim lessons and recreational swim and water polo teams at El Modena High School this summer.  Information regarding these programs is outlined below.

 

Swim Lessons:

We will be offering four sessions of swim lessons throughout the summer starting on June 20th.  Each session runs Monday through Friday for two weeks straight; 10 lessons total. Three types of lesson packages will be offered; Group lessons (8:1), Semi-Private lessons (4:1) and Private lessons (1:1).  Six Red Cross lesson levels are available during all lessons to allow for placement of children in classes of equal ability within group and semi-private lessons.  Links to the level outlines can be found on the left of this page.  All instructors are Red Cross certified Water Safety Instructors who also maintain current CPR and First Aid certificates.

 

Group lessons (8 swimmers to 1 instructor) $40

Group lessons will be offered at a cost of $40 per session.  Group lessons are offered to Level 2 swimmers and above ONLY.  For safety purposes, no group lessons will be available for Level 1 swimmers.

 

Semi-Private lessons (4 swimmers to 1 instructor) $80

Semi-Private lessons will be offered at a cost of $80 for the entire session.  This is our most recommended lesson type for children not needing private lessons.  In this Semi-Private lesson environment, children are in small groups of just four children to one instructor.  We have found through experience that children often excel in this type of class because they want to mimic and compete with the other children.  If they have a friend who can join them in the group, it will make it all that much more fun!

 

Private lessons (1 on 1) $200

Private lessons are necessary for any child under the age of three, and recommended for children with special needs and attention.  Private lessons are offered at a cost of $200 per session.

 

Session Dates:

Session 1: June 20th - July 1st

Session 2: July 5th - July 15th

(no lessons on Monday, July 4th)

Session 3: July 18th - July 29th

Session 4: August 1st - August 12th

 

Class Times for All Levels:

09:30 to 09:55 AM

10:00 to 10:25 AM

10:30 to 10:55 AM

11:00 to 11:25 AM

11:30 to 11:55 AM

 

NOTE: Once registered, it is important to attend all lessons as there will be no make-up lessons, refunds or transfers for any reason.

 

Swim Team:

The summer recreational swim team will be run from June 20th to August 12th at El Modena High School.  Practices are held M-F from 12:00 Noon to 1:00 PM daily.  To be eligible for the team, swimmers must be able to complete two lengths of the pool swimming proper freestyle with side breathing, as well as one length of the pool swimming backstroke.  Typically swimmers who are at Level 5 of our swim lessons program should be ready for this fun team environment.

 

Program Cost - $160 ($250 for swim team/water polo combo)

Cost includes ORCA membership, t-shirt and loads of fun!

Sibling discounts of $20 are available to each added family member.

 

Water Polo:

If you are a pretty good swimmer, like throwing a ball, soccer or basketball, you should try this introductory fun summer water polo program.  Basic skills and knowledge of the game as well as scrimmages will occur throughout this two month program.  Children must be 9 years and older and must be able to complete FOUR lengths of the pool without stopping swimming freestyle.  The program will run from June 20th to August 12th at El Modena H.S.  Practices will be held M-F from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon daily.

 

Program Cost - $160 ($250 for swim team/water polo combo)

Cost includes ORCA membership, t-shirt and loads of fun!

Sibling discounts of $20 are available to each added family member.
