ORCA Girls Polo took 1st place at the Falcon Cup #4 Tournament
It
appears ORCA saved the best for last. This past Sunday, November
6th, the ORCA H.S. girls team picked up three huge
victories resulting in their winning of the Falcon Cup #4
tournament at Santa Ana Valley HS.
Needless to say they
deserve congratulations. Their
first game was against Santa Ana Valley,
a team we previously lost to. The
girls all played excellent defense which frustrated Valley but
allowed us to have great counter-attack opportunities.
They picked up a sound
victory against Valley despite the cold, the rain, and the
tenacity of the other team. The
girls’ next game was against the boisterous Santa Monica
(SAMOHI). The girls
again played excellent defense and converted their ‘man-ups’ and
counter-attacks flawlessly. After
defeating SAMOHI the girls secured their second win.
The last game was
against Temecula Valley.
The girls were pitted against some of the toughest,
roughest, and most physical girls ORCA had seen.
The game raged on as a
continuous tug-of-war; no team securing a strong lead over the
other. The game ended in
a tie so the girls had to play one three-minute quarter of
Golden Goal – commonly known as ‘sudden death’.
The ORCA girls won the
sprint and set up their offense.
The ball was passed into the center and ORCA scored on
the first possession of the over-time quarter.
With smiles and cheers
the girls came together, gave
Temecula
Valley a cheer, and left
the pool on a very positive note.
Congratulations to the ORCA girls on an excellent club season
and we all wish them the best of luck in their High School polo
season starting this week.
