ORCA JO TEAM SWIMS TO VICTORY

The twenty swimmer ORCA Summer JO team had an awesome meet at the 2011 Summer Junior Olympics in Santa Clarita, which marked the end of the long course season.  Two swimmers, Chandler Regan and Madison Tedesco earned 1st Place Gold Medals in the 100 Breaststroke and Butterfly respectively, and the ORCA swimmers achieved many other top 8 and 16 finishes, including a Silver and Bronze finish for Tedesco in the 200 Fly and 200 IM.  The swimmers also earned a total of 43 best times, there were nine individual and two relay records broken, and many personal bests accomplished.  Please enjoy reading the summaries of their swims.

 

Alexander Castellanos (18) swam 5 for 5 best swims and broke two ORCA records. He swam the 100 Breast in 1:11.68 to break a two year old record once belonging to Lucas Spencer (1:12.38), which put him in 10 place overall. He broke another of Lucas’s records from last year in the 200 Breast (2:42.77) with a time of 2:35.09, earning him an SCSR and 6th place in the finals. In his 200 IM he took the #5 spot in the ORCA All-Time Top Five Times list.

 

Jennifer Davis (13) swam her first Summer JO 200 Fly and finished in 12th place at finals. This swim put her in the #3 position in the ORCA All-Time Top Five Times list.

 

Drake Dusterhoft (12) swam the 400 Free and swam his time.

 

Elle Gault (17) swam in four individual events and two relays. She swam the 200 Fly for 12th place at finals, the 200 Breast for 10th place at finals, and the 100 Breast for 9th place at finals, which also put her at #4 on the ORCA All-Time Top Five Times list. She also swam and dropped time in her 200 IM.

 

Hailey Golden (16) swam in six individual events plus 4 relays. She broke her own ORCA record from last month (28.13) in the 50 Free with a time of 28.01. At finals she finished 9th in the 200 Fly, 13th in the 200 Free, 11th in the 100 Fly, 6th in the 100 Back, and 6th in the 50 Free. She climbed the ORCA All-Time Top Five Times list in the following events, #2 in the 100 Back, #3 in the 100 Fly, and #2 in the 200 Fly.

 

Jillian Golden (10) swam in six individual events plus two relays. She finished in 14th place at finals in the 50 Fly and in 15th place in the 50 Back, also taking the #3 spot on the ORCA All-Time Top Five Times list in the 50 Back.

 

Brianna Hayes (17) swam in 4 individual events and two relays. Her 100 Fly time put her on the ORCA All-Time Top Five Times list in the #5 spot.

 

Brooke Hayes (13) swam in 6 individual events and in 4 relays, finishing 11th in the 100 Free, and 9th in the 100 Back with a time of 1:13.34, earning her a Spring JO cut and breaking a 12 year old ORCA record by Lauren Mathewson (1:13.77) in 1999! She also toppled the ORCA All-Time Top Five Times list in 5 additional events, #3 in the 50 Free, #2 in the 100 Free, #4 in the 200 Free, #3 in the 400 Free, and #4 in the 200 Back.

 

Alexa Herbel (10) swam in 6 individual events and 2 relays. She finished at finals in 12th place in the 100 Free, 5th place in the 50 Fly, 12th place in the 50 Back, and 6th place in the 50 Free. She jumped up the ORCA All-Time Top Five Times list in 5 events, #2 in the 50 Free, #4 in the 100 Free, #2 in the 50 Back, #2 in the 50 Fly, and #4 in the 100 Fly.

 

Jesse Hill (12) swam in two events, stepping into the #2 spot on the ORCA All-Time Top Five Times list in the 50 Fly.

 

Harrison Lee (9) swam in six events, coming back to finals in three events, finishing in 14th place in the 100 Fly and the 100 Back, and 7th place in the 50 Fly. He also placed 14th in the 50 Back at prelims. He made Spring JO cuts in the 100 Fly, the 100 Free, and the 50 Free. Harrison re-arranged the ORCA All-Time Top Five Times list in five events, the 50 Free -  #4, the 100 Free - #3, the 100 Back - #2, the 50 Fly - #2, and the 100 Fly - #2.

 

Jason Ly (15) swam in two individual events and 4 relays, swimming his time in the 200 Back and dropping time in the 100 Back, earning him the #5 spot on the ORCA All-Time Top Five Times list in the 100 Back.

 

Tasha Mahshi (12) swam the 400 Free, dropping time in that event.

 

Gabrian Meier (15) swam in two relays, dropping time as lead off in the 200 Free Relay.

 

Chandler Montgomery (15) swam in two events, the 200 Back and the 100 Back.

 

Chandler Regan (15) swam in 6 individual events and 4 relays. She broke her own record of last month in the 100 Breast, previously 1:20.79, with a time of 1:20.05. She was seeded first in this event, and finished in 1st place at finals! Chandler’s free relay lead off time in the 200 Free Relay earned her the #5 spot on the ORCA All-Time Top Five Times list for 50 Free and a Summer JO cut. Her time in the 200 IM landed her in 13th place at finals and a #2 spot on the ORCA All-Time Top Five Times list. She also finished in 10th placed in the 400 IM, and 5th place in the 200 Breast (where she already has the ORCA record).

 

Chloe Regan (13) swam in four individual events and four relays, dropping time in her 100 Free as lead off in the 400 Free Relay.

 

Connor Regan (17) swam in three individual events and two relays.

 

Graydon Stanley (17) swam in four individual events and four relays. Graydie broke his own record from a year ago, earned at the 2010 Summer JO’s (2:28.51), in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:28.34. On the ORCA All-Time Top Five Times list he bumped up to the #4 spots in both the 100 Fly and the 400 IM.

 

Madison Tedesco (17) swam in six individual events and four relays, coming back to swim in the finals in 5 out of the 6 events. Madison broke three of her own records, all previously set at the 2011 Speedo Champions Series. In the 100 Fly a time of 1:05.10 beat her previous record of 1:06.73, a time of 2:25.53 won over her time of 2:27.17 in the 200 Fly, and in the 200 IM a 2:31.38 glided past her old 2:31.96 record. Her remarkable standings at the end of finals were, 2nd place in the 200 Fly, 3rd place in the 200 IM, 6th place in the 100 Breast, 15th place in the 100 Back, and in the 100 Fly, where she was seeded first in prelims, Madison swam to first place in the finals with a time of 1:05.10! These great swims also jostled the ORCA All-Time Top Five Times list in two events, #4 in the 50 Free, and #3 in the 100 Breast.

 

Two relay teams broke ORCA records at this meet.

Female 10 & Under 200 Free Relay ORCA record was established by the team of Alexa Herbel, Leanne Landers, Clarissa Hoyt, and Jillian Golden with a time of 2:28.13.

Female 15-18 400 Free Relay ORCA record of 4:19.00 was broken by the team of Hailey Golden, Chandler Regan, Elle Gault, and Madison Tedesco with a time of 4:16.85.
