ORCA Swimmers Dominate at High School League Swimming Championships

 

With a League MVP, six 1st Place finishes, one league record, three individual school records and a total of thirty top-8 finishes in individual events, the ORCA high school swimmers dominated their high school league finals which occurred this past Friday.

 

Tierney and SpencerAt the Century League swimming finals held at Villa Park High School, Lucas Spencer and Kristopher Tierney (left), both swimming for El Modena H.S., lead the charge, winning both of their individual events; each breaking school records.  Spencer started the meet winning the 200 yard Freestyle (1:45.49) and followed with a Century League record and El Modena High School record in the 100 breaststroke with the fastest CIF Division II time swum this year of 59.17.   Tierney was quick to follow, winning the very next event with an El Modena High School record in the 200 I.M., going a blistering 1:59.24.  He would also go on to win the 100 yard Backstroke with a CIF automatic qualifying time of 55.35.  With his dominating swims at finals and going undefeated in dual meets this season for ELMO, Spencer would go on to be named Co-MVP of the Century League with Jake Fletcher of Brea Olinda H.S. 

 

Leading the charge on the girls side of the meet, Madison Tedesco and Danica Lambert, both swimming for Villa Park H.S., each placed 1st in individual events.  Tedesco placed 1st in the 100 yard Butterfly with a personal best time of 59.68.  She also placed 2nd in the 200 IM with a personal best time of 2:12.77; both were CIF qualifying times.  Lambert would win the 100 yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:12.86.  She also took 5th in the 200 IM (2:19.22).  Lambert will be swimming the 100 Breaststroke at CIF with a qualifying time from a previous high school dual meet where she went a blazing 1:11.56.

Maath Brodsky (ELMO) - 5th place JV Boys 100 yard Breaststroke (1:12.76)

Dana Davis (VP) – 2nd place Varsity Girls 100 yard Backstroke (1:05.99), 7th place 200 IM (2:28.55)

Elle Gualt (ELMO) – 3rd place Varsity Girls 100 yard Breaststroke (1:14.63), 6th place 200 IM (2:23.83)

Alex Gonzalez (ELMO) – 3rd place Varsity Boys 100 yard Butterfly (55.83), 5th place 100 Back (59.47)

Brianna Hayes (ELMO) – 6th place Varsity Girls 50 yard Freestyle (26.69), 7th place 100 Free (59.17)

Erika Herrera (VP) – 2nd place JV Girls 200 yard Freestyle (2:20.37), 2nd place 50 Fly (32.60)

Amanda Hicks (VP) – 8th place JV Girls 500 yard Freestyle (6:42.49)

Bryce Leiter (VP) – 2nd place Varsity Boys 200 yard Freestyle (1:49.38), 4th place 500 Free (5:06.92)

Courtney Nguyen (ELMO) – 4th place Varsity Girls 100 yard Butterfly (1:06.74), 5th place 100 Back (1:07.11)

Nathan Ortega (ELMO) – 4th place Varsity Boys 200 IM (2:09.58), 6th place 100 Free (51.63)

 

At the Trinity League swimming finals held at Santa Margarita H.S., first year freshmen Hailey Golden, swimming for Orange Lutheran High School, took 3rd place in the 50 yard Freestyle with an Orange Lutheran school record time of 25.54.  She also placed 6th in the 100 Free with a time of (57.68).

 

At the Freeway League swimming finals held at Sonora H.S., Connor Regan, swimming for Troy High School, placed 3rd in the 100 yard Backstroke (59.16) and 4th in the 100 Fly (57.).  With Regan’s help, Troy High School went undefeated this year and took 1st place at the Freeway League finals.

 

Finishing up the high school swim season are the CIF Division II Championships which will be held this Friday at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, CA.  ORCA swimmers swimming for their respective high schools include from VP; Danica Lambert (100 Breast, 200 Medley Relay) and Madison Tedesco (200 IM, 100 Fly, 200 Medley Relay, 400 Free Relay), and from El Modena; Kevin Fermin (200 Medley and 400 Free Relays), Nathan Ortega (200 Medley and 400 Free Relays), Lucas Spencer (100 Free, 100 Breast, 200 Medley Relay, 400 Free Relay) and Kristopher Tierney (200 IM, 100 Back, 200 Medley Relay, 400 Free Relay).  Prelims will start at 10:00 AM on Friday; Finals will be on Saturday, starting at 4:00 PM.
